Agriculture & The District
The District’s roots are agriculturally based.  We continue to support local agricultural producers through our partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).  Please see page 8 of our 2007 Annual Report to read about NRCS's conservation achievements from 2007.

The District is involved directly in local agricultural endeavors through watershed protection projects and educational initiatives such as the Maine Harvest Lunch program and annual displays at the Cumberland Fair.

The District works with agricultural producers through watershed protection projects, such as the Libby Brook Conservation Project and the Presumpscot River Initiative Grant.  These projects offer assistance to farmers to make improvements that reduce the impact of farming practices on local water bodies.  The Walnut Crest Farm in Gorham is one such farm that recently implemented water quality improvement practices through the Presumpscot River Initiative Grant.  These improvements are featured as the cover story of our 2007 Annual Report.
