Jo
in us on May 31st 2008 for the first ever Forest Lake Buffer Benefits Day at Skillins Greenhouses in Cumberland!

Help protect Forest Lake and enhance your home by planting beautiful native plants on your property.  Skillins Greenhouses will offer discounted native plants to those who participate in the Buffers Benefit program through the Forest Lake Conservation Project.  Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District staff will be on hand to help you select plants.

What is a Buffer???

A buffer is vegetation between any developed land and a waterbody, and is made up of groundcovers, shrubs and trees.  The vegetation lessens the impact of rain and wind; provides shade; and has root systems to help absorb water, stabilize soil, and trap sediments.

The benefits of buffers include less runoff and erosion and more privacy, noise protection, shade, and wildlife habitat.
