Is your soil contaminated with lead? Get your soil tested for free!
So far, the Portland Soil Lead Awareness project has collected 80 soil samples from gardens on Portland’s peninsula. Of the samples tested, 64% of samples contained above normal background levels of lead.
Drop off soil samples collected anywhere in Maine that you want screened for lead contamination at our tent at Deering Oaks Park on Saturday, September 26th. Bring the soil samples in ZipLock bags, drop them off at our booth, and the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conversation District will be in touch with the test results. Check out this flyer to learn how to collect a soil sample!
A SoilSHOP is the Environmental Protection Agency's free soil testing program. The EPA will perform the testing anonymously and free-of-charge. All personal contact information will be managed by the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District.
