Upcoming Raised Beds Workshop

Join us for a free workshop focusing on the basics of raised bed gardening on Tuesday, April 29 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM right here at the District office!

Raised beds lift soil above ground level in large planter boxes made of a food-safe material. Raised beds are primarily used for planting fruits, vegetables, and herbs to increase access to food while reducing grocery bills. They can be used in urban areas and yards of all sizes, allowing gardeners to maximize their growing space.

Raised beds are especially beneficial in locations with poor or contaminated ground soils, as they allow for a new custom soil mix in each bed. When gardening with contaminated soils, line the raised bed with a food safe barrier or put the raised bed on legs to keep roots from contacting the contaminated soils. Raised beds can also be a more accessible and ergonomic method of gardening.

The workshop will begin inside learning about various conservation techniques and end outside to try things out in our raised bed demonstration garden. Attendees will leave this workshop feeling confident in their ability to start and maintain a raised bed at their own home!
