Students Raise Fish and Grow Spinach Using Aquaponics

At the Biddeford Regional Center of Technology, students in Ethan Davis’ Farming and Food Production class have been using aquaponics in their classroom. This fall semester, they have been growing spinach above the the fish tank where the 3 Cory Catfish live. The students have had a great time using the aquaponics to practice alternative methods of food production.

This project was funded in part by the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund, in which proceeds from the sale of a dedicated instant lottery ticket, currently Big Bucks, are used to support outdoor recreation and natural resource conservation. For more information about MOHF, go to www.maine.gov/ifw/mohf
